This study was designed to compare the clinical efficiency and pregnancy rates in In Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer(IVF-ET) programs using gonadotropin releasing homone agonist(GnRH-a) in two different methods (long protocol, ultrashort
protocol). Total 103 cycle were observed prospectively.
In ultrashort protocol (57 cycles), we started GnRH-a (decapeptyl) at menstrual cycle day 2, in long protocol(46 cycles) at mentrual cycle day 21. Gonadotropins were started at menstral cycle day 3 in both protocols.
When a leading follicle was ≥18mm, or at least two follicles were ≥14mm in diameter, we administered HCG 10,000 I.U. intramuscularly. Oocytes were retrieved as usual met hods under transvaginal ultrasound guidance, after 36 hours of HCG
administration. Embryo transfer was done 36-48hrs later.
@ES Results were as follows.
@EN 1. The mean age of the patients using ultrashort protocol(group A) was 31.3±3.4(mean±S.D) years old, in case of long protocol (Group B) it was 31.4±3.9 years old there was no difference in mean age between two groups.
2. The numbers of retrieved oocytes were 9.73±6.08 in group A, 11.8±6.67 in group B. No difference was found.
3. Fertilization rates were 57.2±21.2(%) in Group A, 57.1±22.3(%) in Group B, and cleavage rates were 53.4±21.8(%) in Group A, 52.2±23.6(%) in Group B.
There were no difference in fertilzation rates and cleavage rates between two groups.
4. Pregnancy rates were 31.5% in group A, 28.2% in group B. In group A, higher pregnancy rate was shown, but there was no statistical difference.
5. Amounts of gonadotropin required were 27.2±7.9(amples) in group A, 38.76±10.88(amples) in group B.
We used less amount of gonadotropin in group A than group B(P=0.0001).
